Dual Protocol Networked Gateway
Codec
A CODEC on a VUGATE SuperHub is an ISDN or IP
gateway used for making wide area calls where the audio/video
transmitted is digitized and compressed. The MINX Network CODECs
follow the ITU H.320 and H.323 standards for videoconferencing and
provides a gateway to the Wide Area (long distance) for the local
connections in offices and conference rooms connected to the MINX
Local Video Network. The MINX
Network CODEC is connected to a SuperHub as a
shared resource that allows anyone on the local video network to
dial through the CODEC from their desktop.
The MINX 2315 Network CODEC is a dual protocol codec and supports
both the H.320 and H.323 standard protocols. In the H.320 standard
protocol, it will connect directly to the public switched
telecommunications network and will support line speeds from 56KB
to 384KB. In the H.323 mode of operation, the MINX 2315 CODEC is
meant to connect to a LAN/WAN network via TCP/IP protocol. In the
H.323 mode of operation, the MINX 2315 CODEC will support network
speeds up to 1.5MB. In either mode of operation, the MINX 2315
CODEC will connect to the telecommunication network via a standard
V.35 telecommunications connection, or directly to ISDN BRI lines.
